Project Status Update/Message from Contract Administrator

Dear Marina Neighbors, Tenants and Other Interested Parties:

I had hoped to be able to provide an early December status update informing you that the North Marina Combined Projects work had been deemed substantially complete with only a few punch list items remaining. Unfortunately, the snow right before Thanksgiving and the “Pineapple Express” rains that followed did not provide the opportunity for IMCO General Construction/subcontractors to accomplish asphalt paving as hoped. So where do we stand today?

  • Asphalt Paving: Paving of project parking lot and right of way areas was completed this past Monday morning. Striping will follow completion of the landscaping activities, but is weather dependent.
  • Irrigation/Landscaping: Irrigation mainlines have been installed and successfully tested; lateral irrigation lines are approximately 90+% complete. Compost/topsoil was delivered to the site Monday and is being installed in the various planting areas. Planting is scheduled to start later this week and should be complete by the end of next week.
  • Tenant access to N-Dock and West Dry Shed: Direct/unescorted access to the new N-Dock security enclosure and the west side of the western dry shed will be restored when the construction fencing in the south project area is removed at the end of this week.
  • Removal of Contractor Facilities, Equipment and Material: The remaining IMCO office trailer is scheduled to be removed today, thus allowing through access on Dock Avenue South by the end of the week. Please exercise caution while utilizing Dock Avenue, as drivers will again be sharing this right of way with construction equipment and pedestrians. The construction fencing is expected to remain throughout north project areas until the parking lot and right of ways are striped and may safely be used by the public. (Again, striping is the last major activity and is weather dependent, so I hesitate to provide an estimated date.)

With the completion of construction right around the corner, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in the project and for your patience with the inevitable inconveniences that accompany major construction. It has been my pleasure to be in communication with you over the past 14 months and to meet many of you personally. Although my involvement with this project will continue for awhile longer, my time spent onsite will be much reduced. Beginning this week, I will be onsite approximately one day per week, but will monitor project emails daily. Questions about the project may be directed to Joe Dusenbury, Harbormaster/Project Manager (jdusenbury@desmoineswa.gov or 206-824-5700).

Wishing you Happy Holidays!
